A man allegedly assaulted two police officers outside a Cronulla wedding reception

A wedding reception in Sydney’s south has turned ugly after a guest allegedly shoulder charged and punched a police officer.

Emergency services were called to a beachfront venue at Mitchell Rd, Cronulla around 10.30pm on Saturday following reports of a fight.

Police attended the scene and issued two men, aged 55 and 26, with move-on directions.

The younger man is alleged to have stayed and then punched a male senior constable in the chest.

Police will allege he then pushed a male constable onto the road and shoulder charged him.

Capsicum spray was then used on the Woolooware man before he was arrested and charged with two counts of resisting or hindering police, failing to comply with direction, and assaulting a police officer.

The man was taken to Sutherland Police Station where he was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.

The senior officer was taken to Sutherland District Hospital to treat injuries to his wrist and knees, and has since been released.

Police are investigating the incident.
